Work as an Election Judge on March 17, 2026

Democratic Election Judges work on the day of the primary and general elections rotating through the various jobs at the polling site. They check in voters, hand them ballots, explain how to fill out the ballot, check off voters as they receive their ballot, monitor voting to be sure no one is influencing a voter, assist voters with disabilities, and other various tasks to help the election run smoothly and fairly.  Election Judges earn $220 per election day, and additional pay for early voting Election Judge positions.  You must be available to work the entire day of the General Election Day (5 a.m. to 7 p.m.) and attend a required two-hour training the week prior to the election.

Mobilize voters in your neighborhood as a Precinct Committee Member

Precinct Committee Members (PCMs) are the lifeblood of the Democratic Party. Every election is won at the grass roots level. PCMs are the first line of contact between the voters in a precinct and the Democratic Party.

Think of them as the "foot soldiers" of the party at the neighborhood level.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Voter Registration: They actively work to register eligible voters within their precinct, often going door-to-door or setting up registration drives.

  • Get-Out-the-Vote (GOTV) Efforts: During elections, they play a vital role in encouraging and mobilizing party members and supporters to vote. This can involve knocking on doors, distributing literature, phone banking, and reminding people to head to the polls. The PCM recommends candidates who are aligned with Democratic values.

  • Communication and Information: They serve as a point of contact for party information, distributing campaign materials, and answering voters' questions about candidates and party platforms.

  • Building Relationships: They aim to build relationships with voters in their precinct, understanding their concerns and acting as a liaison between the community and the party.

  • Attending Meetings: They are typically expected to attend local party meetings, such as township or county central committee meetings.

In Illinois, PCMs are elected in the even-year primary elections to a two-year term. The next election for PCMs in Adams County will take place in March 2026, during the primary elections. Vacancies can also be filled by appointment by the county party chairman. If you're interested in getting more involved with the Adams County Democratic Party, becoming a PCM is an excellent way to make a direct impact in your community.
